I help organisations own their vision, achieve their mission, live by their values and succeed. I have substantial strategic management and governance experience with the voluntary and community sector and like working with charities & social purpose organisations.
I have worked in the voluntary sector for over 20 years with a background in youth work, community development, homelessness and volunteering infrastructure in both local and national charities - and am a lifelong volunteer .
In 2001 I was appointed as Chief Executive of the National Association of Volunteer Bureaux/Volunteer Development England. During 3 years there I generated over £3m new funding, managed the development of Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation and led the organisation into a merger with the National Centre for Volunteering to create Volunteering England. Following the merger I became Director of Capacity Building and Infrastructure Development, and later Director of Strategy and Planning, where I led the development and implementation of the Volunteer Centre brand and the £1m Volunteer Point programme. I also had responsibility for the development and management of the Volunteering Hub, the development of the national and regional bodies of the England Volunteering Development Council. In 2006, I supported the creation of the Commission on the Future of Volunteering before leaving Volunteering England at the end of the year.
Since 2007 I have been a self employed consultant working with a range of local, regional and national organisations in the third and public sectors on issues of strategic development, change management, volunteering, communications, marketing and fundraising. I am an Associate Director of Red Foundation where, as well as working with clients, I have led the Modernising Volunteering National Support Service work on volunteer led volunteering.
I currently volunteer in a variety of local community groups and am a board member of a local charity.
