Sorry to interrupt…

We are a charity website still in development and you could really help by telling us what you think of the site. Once you have had a chance to see the site, would you take part in a very short, confidential survey? You just have to click Launch Survey (it will open in a new window). Thank you very much.

I want to set up a non profit organization if this works i want to commit to the project full time...

Will I be able to draw an allowance  as I am the main bread winner for my family and will I be able to pay wages to over staff if my idea takes off?

Yes, many charities have paid staff as well as volunteers, and you may be able to find sources of unrestricted funding to pay for "core costs" such as paying staff wages.

I have already set up a non-for-profit in Kenya i would like to know are we so different in what and the way we set up back in Kenya and the US? and apart from that...how do u source for funding from a NON-for profit from the Uk and are the rules of "engagement" so rigid and very hard to get to understand?

Hello Mokoth

I am going to reiterate what Squil wrote in another thread about setting up an organisation, and suggest you follow the link through to another part of this site: http://www.knowhownonprofit.org/basics/settingup

Specifically in terms of setting up a charity that is registered in England or Wales, I am a great fan of the information provided by the Charity Commission (links to their site provided via the KnowHowNonProfit page above)

They have a thorough and user-friendly range of information and leaflets (available to download or in hard copy) that should answer many of your questions about the differences between how your organisation is set up and structured in Kenya, and the requirements in England or Wales.

Hope this helps.

J
