Subject: Where can nonprofit marketers talk to each other?

I feel the contibution of marketing to delivering effecdtive nonprofit srevices, campaigning and fundraising is crucial. There are a couple of academic journals and there is a helpful annual marketing conference put on by NCVO. Is there anywhere else where nonprofit marketers get together? If not can we start something? Its early for this site to do something, but once we buld up visitors to substantial numbers is it worth doing someting?

Hi Ian-

I just looked on Meetup.com and Eventbrite.com and neither had anything on nonprofit marketing-related events or groups.  I don't think you are the only person interested in the topic, though!

You may be right, that once the site's community grows, the number of others interested in the topic and getting together can organize something together.

Without a group to meet with now, where do you go to get your fill of conversation?  Which blogs do you follow or news columns/sections do you watch? - I'd love to hear your recommendations and bet others would as well!

Thanks in advance for sharing!

Non-profit fundraising, communications and marketing are all very closely related and (should be more) integrated, so there are many fundraising and comms groups, conferences, networking events and online communities that provide opportunities to get together with other nonprofit marketers, although they are usually tied-in with fundraising and communications or under that banner.

I think this is right, really, so am not sure whether a separate marketing meetups, groups or communities would really add value.

The Institute of Fundraising has a number of regional and special interest groups - and related events - and hosts the National Convention every summer.  Their site is also a rich source of resources and links, including a forum (unfortunately, access to this is for members only).

The Third Sector PR and Comms Facebook group is also well worth a look, and there are several other groups on Facebook for fundraisers, including UK Fundraising (if you look here, you'll find related Facebook groups listed on the right of the page, too, so you can check a few of them out).  Various events are organised and/ or promoted through these groups, so it's worth signing up to keep up to date.

That's just what springs to mind off the top of my head for now, but I'm sure there are more worth mentioning and I'll come back and add them if I think of any!

Oh, yes, of course - there are a vast range of groups on LinkedIn, too.  Here's just one that focuses on nonprofit marketing, but there are many more on fundraising, web 2.0 for nonprofits, nonprofit management or general nonprofit issues.

Another place is Progressive Exchange -- they have a very active email list of people doing online organizing, advocacy, marketing and fundraising on behalf of progressive causes, campaigns, and organizations.

We also have a section on Nonprofit Marketing in the Network for Good Learning Center.

Also, Nonprofit Marketing Zone recently launched.
