We're working on a new StudyZone course about press coverage and looking for some examples of small / medium-sized organisations who have had their stories covered by national media.

Do you know of examples we could include? They don't have to be from this year. Please add your suggestions here (or email knowhow@city.ac.uk).

Many thanks

Hi there, I'm the Communications Manager from the national charity Aspire, which provides practical help to people paralysed by a spinal cord injury. A few months back we commented on a storyline in the soap Emmerdale, where a spinal cord injured character took his own life because he had decided life was not worth living as a tetraplegic. Aspire believes that life does go on after spinal cord injury and we were very vocal about this. We sent out a press release to the local media and had coverage in The Telegraph, The Mirror on Sunday, The Daily Mail, The Daily Star Sunday and The Metro. We were also in Heat magazine online and we were mentioned on ITV This Morning and Channel five's The Wright Stuff.

Hi Kirsty, I'm Multimedia Content Manager at KnowHow. This is fantastic coverage. Congratulations, what an amazing media line up! Would you be able to post some links in this thread to some of that coverage? We are actually looking for somewhat smaller charities but I really like your story idea so might use it anyway. If we decide to include your organisation, I'll get in touch but in the meantime I'd be grateful to be able to read some of that coverage.Thank you.

Hello there - when I worked at Chance UK, we had a few bits of coverage in nationals.

One was in the Independent, where a freelance journalist did a case study of one our mentors. It was related to the police working closer with the communities they serve. It definitely helped that we had developed a relationship with the journalist beforehand, to the point where he wanted to help us.

The other was in The Times. It was a joint survey with Action for Children, then NCH, about how men were afraid to work with children for fear of being labelled paedophiles. The shocking nature of the survey, and the national press office at NCH, both definitely helped!
