Lots of practical points emerged from the session.

Simon and Jeff found value in creating a joint committee of professional fundraisers and lay people; and Simon wanted all his employees to feel responsible for generating funds.

Two issues arise from this:

  • How do you clarify who does what -- is there a danger of overlap, the more individuals are involved?
  • If all employees are encouraged to generate funds, is there a risk that a well-intentioned employee may approach a potential donor and inadvertently sabotage a more "professional" approach by an experienced fundaraiser?
