Impact of the spending review, the first ever Trustees’ Week, and ‘gifts in kind’

by WebAssistant last modified Jun 02, 2011 03:46 PM

Dear friend of KnowHow,

We celebrate the first ever Trustees’ Week with interviews from five very different types of trustees. Find out if trusteeship is for you. We also cut through the Comprehensive Spending Review and its impact on the voluntary sector, with reaction from philanthropy expert Cathy Pharaoh. Plus we invite you to contribute to a new survey from the Clore Social Leadership Programme on the importance of gifts in kind.

Impact of the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR)

Immediately after the Government's CSR announcement, we spoke with Cathy Pharoah, Co-Director of the Centre for Charitable Giving and Philanthropy and Professor of Charity Funding at Cass Business School.

Cathy looks at which cuts will hit the voluntary sector the hardest and which areas in particular will be affected. She also suggests where there might be opportunities for the sector.

Trustees’ Week 2010 – could you be a trustee?

The Charity Commission and partners are running the first ever Trustees' Week from 25-31 October 2010. The week aims to celebrate the fantastic work done by trustees and to increase awareness and understanding of the trustee role.

As part of the week, KnowHow NonProfit has recorded interviews with five very different types of trustee – from young to old, working to retired, from those looking to develop their career to those directly affected by the cause they are championing.

The interviews show the importance of trustee diversity in ways that everyone can relate to.

Gifts in kind – what part do they play in giving today?

When a donor tells you they want to “give more than just money” do you get excited by the possibilities or wish that cash was still king? Are goods, services and facilities given in kind helping you to reduce core costs or do you struggle to find opportunities for donors to give in this way?

Share you experiences in this survey and you will help inform a practical guide on ‘gifts in kind’. Everyone who takes part will receive a free copy of the guide.

This research is led by Caroline Beaumont, a fellow on the Clore Social Leadership Programme, supported by KnowHow NonProfit and nfpSynergy.
