Under what circumstances can Trustees be paid?

What is the situation under the new Act? Can they do anything as long as it is declared?

I would be interested in any case studies or examples.

Dear Richard

The general principle - well known to you already I'm sure - is that trustees should not materially benefit from their trusteeship. The basic information and guidance is in the Charity Commission publication CC11 Trustees Expenses and Payments , published June 2008.

Also worth a look is the Bates Well and Braithwaite publication Duties of Charity Trustees, particularly pages 16-17  www.bateswells.co.uk/Files/Publications/Duties of Charity Trustees.

For more specific  information relating to your organisation(s), you will probably need to pay for professional advice.

Finally, there is an article in  today's Third Sector  which you may find of use.

Regret, I am not aware of case studies but maybe you can provide one from your own experience?

Hope this level of generality is of some help!
