What kind of examples might be relevant when asking an interview candidate for examples of leadership when assessing their potential to develop leadership skills?

In the section "Role of a leader" see the 5 essential actions of a leader:

Building trust

Demonstrating courage

Challenging

Providing focus

Effective Communication.

A candidate ought to be able to give an example of at least one of these from their own experience: for instance courage in protesting upwards at unfair treatment of their team, or providing focus by reminding colleagues of key priorities when people are drifting off course.  If the candidate has not yet been in charge of a group of people, responding with examples of what they personally have done may be more difficult, but the ability to see the impact of leadership actions taken by other people would be a good substitute.

What are your favourite questions which draw out leadership potential?

Andrew Forrest.
