About Mill Brew Society
Mill Brew Society (MBS) is a local association which was established in 2008. It was founded by Morris Stanley, its current Treasurer, to save the Old Brewery space, increase local revenue and create new job opportunities by making a new beer for Millcaster. MBS was awarded a small grant to purchase equipment as part of a local regeneration project. It is run by volunteers who meet two evenings a month.
Services
Mill Brew Society should provide equipment and training to make beer for residents of Millcaster. It is also meant to have open beer tasting sessions for the community three times a year. Membership includes a reduced entrance fee to these events and an annual newsletter.

One way of seeing the MBS is as a community organisation generated from the grass roots and representing the interests of one sub-set of local people!
It is literally true but not necessarily in the spirit of community development and certainly not charitable activity in that a) this group of people do not appear to have any of the indicators of social disadvantage, although they may have amongst them serious or chronic health or mental health conditions, may be full time carers etc. b)MBS is clearly operating as a 'closed shop' c)there appears to be no active intention to fulfil its charitable aims i.e. to contribute to regenerating the area by create job opportunties through creation of a new Millcaster beer. There is also the question of how the regeneration grant has been used!
But might it still be a good idea social enterprise idea? Has it still got potential......
