We're very excited to be running a workshop at the Media Trust Conference next week (10 Nov) about digital strategy. 

Could you answer these short questions to help us develop the session:

  • How important is it that digital work (web / social media / anything online) is included in your organisations business plan or strategy? (not important, important or very important) And say why...
  • What is your top tip for ensuring your digital work is valued and respected within your organisation?

Ok my answers:

Q1: it's impartant that it's in, but as a how rather than a what.  How we are going to deliver the strategic priorities of the charity - one of the means by which we achieve our objectives.  Like many other channels it has a role to play but is not an end in itself.

Q2: That it is seen to adding value, helping people to deliver their targets and ambitions.

yes, because digital facilitate  promotion of multimedia and music in training and artist promotion

Here is some feedback from yesterday's digital strategy session. Delegates were mostly from small to tiny organisations. So many of the delegates faced the same challenges of getting their digital work recognised within their organisations:

  • lack of confidence / direction / training
  • no management buy-in or support
  • difficult to source evidence that their digital work was working.

The following were suggested as ways of tackling these issues:

  • share case studies of things that have worked internally
  • measure success and find ways of proving something has worked (ie benchmark against peers, use google analytics, use Klout, track number of followers / likes / RTs etc)
  • recruit and train some digital champions to help spread the word
  • recognise that you can't do it all, prioritise.

Many of the organisations at the event were in the early days of using social media. We have a guide to getting started with social media to help get you started if you are in a similar position.
