World Humanitarian Day was founded last year by the UN to honour the experiences and challenges faced by humanitarian workers in the field, not only to raise global awareness of their situation, but also to commemorate those that have sacrificed their lives whilst dedicating themselves to the needs of others.
HR and people management is imperative to humanitarian response, and it is vital that workers are set up with appropriate structures and resources so they can utilise the best of themselves.
In response to this newly established event and to help increase public consciousness of the HR and people management functions within aid response and to profile the support we offer them, we have launched the webpage www.peopleinaid.org/whd2010.
Please share this page with all of your colleagues and peers within the humanitarian sector who can benefit from it.
World Humanitarian Day on www.peopleinaid.org/whd2010 includes:
· A video interview with People In Aid’s HR Services Manager, Christine Williamson, who presents her experiences, emphasises the imperative nature of the HR function in the field and highlights the need for comprehensive and adaptive resources like the HR Manual
· FREE information from the People In Aid HR Manual (usually priced at £150 for non-members, £75 for People In Aid members). On 19th August ONLY we are giving away these complimentary sections from our HR Manual to download:
o A contract of employment for agencies to use
o Extensive recruitment information for humanitarian agencies
· Information on how to contribute and use the ‘Managing People In Emergencies Wiki’, a management guide for humanitarian programme managers
· Information on global online networks such as the HHR Online forum, which encourages interaction with the humanitarian HR and management community all over the world
· Feedback from this year’s 16th and 17th Humanitarian HR Conference events in Paris and Mombasa, which focussed on talent management. Resources include testimonials, photos, videos and presentations.
This is a real late reply but I have only just found this site.
I found a real useful free HR resource online which is good for checking to see if companies are filling their legal requirements and is great also in context of payroll services.
