VOLUNTEERING IN THE ECUADORIAN RAINFOREST
Our family-business runs an ecolodge in the Cuyabeno wildlife reserve called ‘Cuyabeno river lodge’. Here we offer volunteering programs for motivated people that combine sightseeing with working in the rainforest. As a volunteer you can do community work with the families nearby the lodge or participate in projects the lodge itself.
Projects
Community work
To support the cooperation we started between our lodge and the local families we are looking for motivated volunteers. You can volunteer in our different projects:
· Volunteer at “la associacion de agricultores del Mirador”
· Teaching English in the community and local school
· Making handicrafts with an enthusiastic group of local women
Volunteering in the lodge
In order to improve the quality and sustainability of our lodge we are now glad to accept volunteers in it. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers for the following projects/tasks:
· Designing an area map and installing trail signalization
· Teaching English and translating on guided tours
· Bartending and assisting in administration
· Creating a sustainable lodge and designing an emergency plan
Accommodation and cost
As a volunteer you it is possible to stay in one of the families of the community El Mirador or in the Cuyabeno River Lodge itself. It is also possible to combine both accommodation possibilities. Prices depends from 220$/month to 360$/month.
Conditions
To make sure we find the right person for a project so that the projects will be sustainable, we have a few basic conditions. We are looking for people who have:
ü Basic Spanish knowledge
ü Well-developed social skills
ü Minimum one month to commit to a project
ü Sense for initiative, lots of flexibility and patience
Ecomontes will give guidance during your volunteering work. After a personal interview in our office in Otavalo we will explain you the details of the project you can join and give you the necessary information. During your work there will always be somebody around to talk to if you have questions or problems, but you are expected to work on an independent basis.
