We're getting ready for the announcements about the cuts next Wednesday. The BBC's coverage of the spending review will explain what it all means and ACEVO's CutsWatch site will show the impact on the sector.

We're looking for your views:

  • How do you think cuts will affect your work?
  • What are you doing to prepare for potentially hard times ahead?

It feels like we're on the edge of it, just tipping over. I heard on Tuesday that my wife's job at a large charity is under threat of redundancy. We thought it might be coming but to actually see it in black and white in the letter was quite shocking. There is a job within the restructured team she could apply for but its unclear at the moment whether this would be a good idea. Its very unsettling. Feels like we're in limbo waiting for more information. Don't think this is necessarily the cuts kicking in. Said charity has to reduce it's spending by £8m. The world is going to look quite different in a year's time I think. Am sure lots of other people are in a similar situation across the country especially today when all the quango closures were announced. Hopefully we can all see some positives in what's happening, efficiency, value for money etc etc. At the moment all the words are harsh - abolish, cut, stop, redundancy. Very gloomy.

Speaking of quangos, George Monbiot writes illuminatingly on which of these in particular are facing the axe and which aren't:

"Public bodies whose purpose is to hold corporations to account are being swept away. Public bodies whose purpose is to help boost corporate profits, regardless of the consequences for people and the environment, have sailed through unharmed."

It's now a week since the cuts announcements and the dust is starting to settle a bit. If you're still not sure what it all means, check out our CSR page which features Cathy Pharoah's views on the impact on the voluntary sector.

Above, John talks about his wife's charity needing to reduce its spending by £8m even before the cuts are taking force. Many people are also predicting a rise in demand for their services at the same time as a drop in funding.

How are you being affected? What do you think the impact will be on you and your organisation?
