I'm not sure this will be of interest to readers, let's see.
For those who run shops and need a low cost electronic point of sale system (EPOS), one of the free offerings which has been around for about nine years is Open Source point Of Sale (OSPOS)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/opensourcepos/
Originally it was named PHP Point Of Sale and when the author made it a commercial product the OSPOS was started.
It is web based and cross-platform so OSPOS will run under Linux, Mac, Microsoft and other operating systems. It has a bunch of good features and is customisable.
I have used it with Gnucash, a free accounting program which is also available for Linux, Mac, Microsoft systems. http://www.gnucash.org/
Every year thousands of computers are dumped by organisations and individuals. It is possible to obtain a fully working reliable system at no cost, install an open source operating system such as Debian Linux on it and use it to great advantage for a project.
Just about everything you need comes packaged with Debian. There are no licensing or validation issues and in twelve years I have have had no hint of any kind of virus.
Gnucash is an example of a program which comes with Debian: there are many hundreds of others.
It's worth a look!
